Ever since I came across this post, I’ve been wanting to do this project. Months passed by, I moved, got settled and finally tried it out! I must say, it really wasn’t as easy as it seemed… and it’s not looking too cute now. I don’t think I used enough fabric stiffener; but at least I tried it! I will try to make another one soon, but here’s a look at my first try!
Instead of individual doilies like it had it the post, I found a huge lace tablecloth that I cup apart in different shapes:
Then I soaked them with fabric stiffener and placed them on the blown up balloon:
I continued cutting out the shapes and placing them on the balloon:
Then I let it dry overnight in my kitty basket. The next day, I popped the balloon and hung the lamp. It sort of lost it’s shape, so I formed it back into a circle:
Then the top started caving in.
Boo! Still looks pretty though, right???

Hi! I made one of these and mine caved in too…To fix it, I hung it in a steamy bathroom for a bit to soften it. I used a beach-ball as my form. I blew up the ball inside the pendant and then brushed the whole thing with a slurry of water, cornstarch and a bit of craft glue. Let it dry for a full 24 hours and now it holds it’s shape perfectly:)
Hi Katie!
OOH!! Thanks so much for the tip! I’ll try that the next time!!!! A beach ball is such a good idea since it’s the perfect size! Thanks again! I’ll let you know how it goes!
